Bolaji Badejo was a Nigerian actor and graphic designer, best known for his role as the first Alien in Ridley Scott's 1979 science fiction horror film "Alien." Badejo's portrayal of the Alien, contributed significantly to the film's success and its lasting impact on the science fiction and horror genres.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1953. Badejo moved to London to study graphic design. It was during his time in London that he was discovered by a member of the casting team for "Alien" at a bar. Badejo's slender, 6-foot-10-inch frame made him an ideal candidate for the role of the Alien.
Despite the critical acclaim he received for his performance, Badejo's acting career was limited to his role in "Alien." After the film's release, he returned to Nigeria, where he lived a relatively private life away from the public eye. Tragically, Badejo's life was cut short when he passed away in 1992 at the age of 39, reportedly due to complications from sickle cell anaemia.
Although his acting career was brief, his work in "Alien" has solidified his legacy as an actor who brought a unique and unforgettable character to life. We’re honoured to share Bolaji’s story as his move from Lagos to London is relatable to all of us.
